Installation
- Overhead coiling grilles as manufactured by Alpine Overhead Doors, Inc are durable, sturdy and economical to install and maintain.
- Opening preparation, miscellaneous or structural metal work, access doors, finish or field painting, field electrical wiring, wire, conduit, fuses and disconnect switches are in the Scope of Work of other divisions or trademarks.
CURTAIN/GRILLE ASSEMBLY
Overhead coiling grille construction consists of the Alpine Straight Pattern 6” or 9” Continuous solid 5/16” hot dipped galvanized horizontal rods spaced 2” o.c. with aluminum vertical links and horizontal sleeves. There is a choice of PVC, or aluminum sleeves. Continuous end links are made to prevent the curtain from leaving the side of the guides.
Finish Options: Grey, Bronze, or Black PVC sleeves with mill finish links.
Material Options: Stainless Steel Sleeves with Stainless Steel Links.
BOTTOM BAR
Two roll formed galvanized 2” x 2” x ⅛” angles designed to reinforce the bottom of the overhead coiling grille curtain. Standard galvanized steel as per ASTM A653/A653M.
Option: Stainless Steel.
BRACKETS
Alpine Grey ExoShield™ powder coated Carbon Steel plate not less than 1/4” thick with ball bearings at rotating support point on drive side bracket. When bolted to the wall, the mounting angle supports the barrel/pipe assembly and forms an end enclosure.
Finish Option: Hot Dipped Galvanized, Stainless Steel or choice of 188 ExoShield™ powder coat colors.
GUIDES
Alpine Grey ExoShield™ powder coated Guide system is designed using structural steel/stainless steel angles with a minimum thickness of 3/16”meeting the ASTM A36 Standard that are bolted together with ⅜” fasteners using minimum 1-¼ ” slotted connections bolted at a minimum 24” o.c. One inch spacing of the guide channel ensures smooth operation of the security grille for the higher speed of travel.
Finish Option: Choice of 188 ExoShield™ powder coat colors.
Material Options: Mill Finish Stainless Steel.
COUNTERBALANCE ASSEMBLY
Steel pipe barrel of a size capable of carrying a curtain load with a maximum deflection of 0.03” per foot of door width. Heat treated helical torsion springs encased in a steel pipe and designed to include an overload factor of 25% to ensure minimum effort to operate the security grille. Sealed and pre-lubricated high speed ball bearing at rotating support points. Torsion spring charge wheel for applying spring torque and for future adjustments.
Finish: Clear coat of rust inhibitor.
Option: Stainless Steel. or Zinc Enriched Powder coating.
HOOD Hexagon(Optional)
Not recommended for above ceiling mount(Option:Square or Round)
Made from #22 gauge galvanized steel as standard and formed to fit the contour of the end brackets.
Finish Options: ExoShield™ powder coat to match security grille curtain.
Material Options: #4 stainless steel. Clear anodized aluminum.
Option 1: Motor acts as lock.
Option 2: Cylinder locks. (Guide Interlocks are required for motorized doors with locks to prevent damage.)
Option 3: Slide bolt locks on the bottom bar.
HOT DIPPED GALVANIZING (OPTION)
Applied to the guides, brackets, and gears in addition to Standard Specifications. Applied where conditions of extreme or unusual atmospheric contamination are present. As per ASTM-A123.

FASCIA GALVANIZED (OPTIONAL)
Useful where the area behind the hood is open. Especially applicable with pre-engineered buildings.

ACCESS CONTROLS
Open/Close/Stop push button stations, Key Switches, Exit Loops, Remote Transmitters and various other types of interior or exterior mounted controls. Consult factory for additional options.
SAFETY ENTRAPMENT PROTECTION
Option: Electric monitored sensing edge with a coil cord, take up reel, or a wireless transmitter and receiver type monitored sensing edge
Option: Safety photo sensors mounted to the guides 6” above the finished floor that project an infrared beam across the width of the door. Breaking the beam while the door is in motion will result in the immediate stop of downward travel and reverse the door to reopen to the top limit.

The Solid State Securities time delay release devices are normally energized as Fail-Safe devices incorporating state of the art electronic security control circuitry.
The Redi-Release™ operable grille release devices respond to emergency conditions generated by manual or automatic normally closed initiating devices, and are designed to be used in conjunction with a temperature fuse link system. The Test-Release device features include time delay on alarm and power loss, motor voltage sensing, form C output, proximity/door edge input and trouble diagnostic capabilities. Check model label to be installed to verify applicable features.
CAUTION: As with all releasing device systems, maximum fire protection is provided when installed in accordance with factory specifications and used with fuse link systems. Fail-Safe operation can only be provided when input power is applied.

1.03 SUBMITTALS FOR OVERHEAD COILING GRILLES:
A. Submit under provisions of Section 01300.
B. Product Data: Provide manufacturer’s standard details and catalog data. Provide installation instructions.
C. Shop Drawings: Furnish shop drawings for architect’s approval. Include elevation, sections, and details indicating dimensions, materials, finishes, conditions for anchorage and support of each door.
D. Submit manufacturer’s recommended operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance instructions.
1.04 QUALITY ASSURANCE FOR OVERHEAD COILING GRILLES:
A. Manufacturer: Rolling doors shall be manufactured by a firm with a minimum of five years experience.
B. Single-Source Responsibility: Manufacturer shall provide doors, tracks, motors, and accessories for each type of door. Secondary components shall come from a source acceptable to the manufacturer of the primary components.
1.05 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING FOR OVERHEAD COILING GRILLES:
A. Deliver materials in original packaging supplied by manufacturer with intact labels. Store materials away from harmful environmental conditions and construction.
1.06 WARRANTY FOR OVERHEAD COILING GRILLES:
A. Door Warranty: Provide two year written warranty from date of installation against deficiencies due to defects in materials or workmanship. Installer agrees to repair or replace any defects in materials or workmanship.

3. [Emergency Egress]: Offers protection from problems that may arise from a power outage during a fire or blackout. This device, which is activated by pulling a lever, will release door motor resistance and lift the door 3 feet from the ground permitting egress. Ideal for malls. (For use with Redi-Hoist®, Redi-Lift®, and Redi-Midget® motors).
2.04 Mounting of Overhead Coiling Grilles:
1. Interior face mounted on prepared opening.
2. Interior mounted between jambs and under lintel in a prepared opening.
3. Exterior face mounted on prepared opening.
PART 3 – EXECUTION OF OVERHEAD COILING GRILLES:
3.01 EXAMINATION of Flexible Strip Doors
A. Verify that dimensions are correct and project conditions are in accordance with manufacturer’s installation instructions; do not proceed with installation until unacceptable conditions have been corrected.
3.02 INSTALLATION OF OVERHEAD COILING GRILLES:
A. Install units in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions.
B. Ensure that units are installed plumb and true, free of warp or twist, and within tolerances specified by manufacturer for smooth operation.
3.03 FIELD TESTING OF OVERHEAD COILING GRILLES:
A. Test doors for regular operation.
3.04 DEMONSTRATION OF OVERHEAD COILING GRILLES:
A. Instruct the Owner’s personnel in correct operation and maintenance of units.
3.05 ADJUST AND CLEAN
A. Clean units in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions.
B. Restore slight blemishes in finishes in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions to match original finish. Remove and provide new units where repairs are not acceptable to the Architect.

Alpine’s overhead coiling grilles have been proven for use on thousands of installations where coiling grilles and high cycle grilles are required for both business and industry.
Overhead coiling grille curtains consists of solid 5/16″ hot-dipped galvanized steel rods covered with PVC sleeves connected with vertical aluminum links. The coiling grille can have either the standard 6″ brick pattern or an optional 6″ or 9″ straight pattern. Rolling security grilles can be either manually or motor operated and utilize structural angle guides. Either a 24 gauge galvanized or paint-primed hood is available. To take up less space inside, the security grilles roll up to store in an overhead coil. Locking choices on the overhead coiling grille includes either a Hasp-pin type for use with padlocks, optional LOC-TITE, or slide bolts.
